The Walking Dead: Episode 610 [NO SPOILERS] Opinion - TWD Takes it Easy and Cools Down After the Insane Mid Season Premiere.

Don't be alarmed. This episode takes things down a notch or two. Image from amc.com

After the brutal mid season premiere, The Walking Dead showrunners decided to let the fans take it easy after it, giving us an episode where things have calmed down since the occurrences of the previous episode. Since this has to be a no spoiler review, all I will say is that the episode makes some bold advances in terms of characters romances by the end, and that is pretty much the dramatic high point of this episode. However, I am totally fine with that. The previous episode was really heartbreaking to watch, so giving us this sort of funny episode that sort of is like a Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid homage for a while, but still furthers the 'plot'.

Its been 2 months in TWD time since the mid season premiere, so people have come to terms with the events of the previous episode and are trying to rebuild Alexandria into the place Deanna wanted it to be. Most of this episode is a one off mission for some supplies with Rick and Daryl, who appear to have had their opinions changed in terms of who to let into Alexandria. But as always, complications ensue in the form of an encounter with a third party, and the events are both comical to an extent as well reasonably tense as far as TWD tense scenes go. Meanwhile Carl, who went through, let's call it for non spoilers sake, an experience the last episode, is back in action taking care of little Judith and he also does something pretty remarkable in a fitting homage to the major thing he was forced to do in season 3. Glenn and Maggie are back together, and man oh man was it relaxing to see them just chilling out in this episode. No word on Carol, Sasha and some others, but I guess it is tricky balancing screen time between so many characters when you have a limited amount of time to allocate each episode.

What I liked most was how this episode focussed more on interpersonal development between the characters, because we definitely needed that after the mid season premiere. However, we still have not heard a damn thing about Negan. After the encounter between Daryl and Negan's men, I was hoping to see Negan himself in some way or the other, but I guess I will have to wait a little longer for that. By the chatter by cast members about what the season finale is going to be, it looks like its going to be brutally heartbreaking and epic. But we'll see. We are watching you, AMC. Good luck!
